When Google released the Android open mobile platform, they have made an Eclipse plugin to be able to develop Android software using the Eclipse IDE. NetBeans IDE version 6.5 has added PHP into its arsenal of supported languages. NetBeans, like Eclipse, started out as an integrated development environment for creating Java applications. The NetBeans IDE now has support for creating software using different languages like C/C++, Ruby, Java, J2ME, JavaFX and recently Javascript and PHP. The addition of support for PHP is exciting because not only is PHP the most used scripting language on the Net, it also offers a low learning curve and very easy to use powerful language for creating web applications.
If you want to create PHP, Java, Javascript, Ruby, J2ME, C or C++ applications and you are using Ubuntu Linux you can use NetBeans as your integrated development environment (IDE). Version 6.5 even provides enhanced support for several web frameworks like Hibernate, Spring, JSF and JPA. Trying out or installing the latest version of NetBeans IDE on Ubuntu Linux desktop edition can be easily done by following these simple steps.

If you’ve been waiting for the final release version of NetBeans 6.5, you don’t have to wait any longer. It’s now available for download from the NetBeans web site. And the most awaited support for PHP is now included in the NetBeans 6.5.
As always, NetBeans is also available for Linux. You can download the newest version from NetBeans without waiting for it to be available from the Ubuntu repository. After downloading the Linux version, just run the installation script from a terminal session to install NetBeans. Be sure to have an installed JDK on your computer to use it.
Enjoy the latest and greatest NetBeans!

I won’t question the GREAT support for J2ME development in the upcoming NetBeans 6.5 (or even in 6.0) but I can’t help but notice the really promising features of PHP development under the near final NetBeans 6.5. The PHP NetBeans team is really pouring it on to provide a good PHP IDE inside NetBeans.
