Sony Ericsson Developer World has officially launched activities in India, giving a commitment to support and engage Indian developers through an award and recognition program. Exclusively for developers in India, entering the new Sony Ericsson Developer World Awards is the first step towards becoming a “Sony Ericsson Certified Developer”. Submissions are now open through a new web site.

Judging the Sony Ericsson Content Awards 2008 is a panel of 13 experts, chosen for their knowledge and experience in this year’s categories. Competition entry is open until November 30, 2008 so time is running out to get your content in front of these industry professionals. The popular Bluetooth Remote Control tool has been given a makeover with a new UI and new functionality. Version 4.0 is now available for download for both Windows and OS X, and the accompanying Bluetooth HID remote control Developers’ Guidelines are also updated.

Winning a category in this year’s Sony Ericsson Content Awards ensures that you will meet members of Sony Ericsson’s senior management and potentially change the future path of your company. Submitting your content by November 30, 2008 puts you in the running to win this prize of an exclusive, behind-the-scenes trip to discuss business with Sony Ericsson’s content decision makers.

At the Symbian Smartphone Show in London, UK, Sony Ericsson announced the intention of making future Symbian Foundation-based phones Project Capuchin enabled. This is part of the continued evolution of our Project Capuchin bridging technology and to make Project Capuchin more widely available in a shared and collaborative manner.

An example of using Sony Ericsson’s Project Capuchin API, this new tutorial illustrates how to create an application where RSS feeds are retrieved by a Java ME application and presented on the phone screen over a Flash Lite UI. Adding an extra dimension, this tutorial and accompanying code takes you through the steps of using the Motion Sensor API (JSR 256) to retrieve accelerometer data to control the motion of a Flash UI.

The new W705 Walkman phone is an elegant slider-style phone designed to deliver an enhanced mobile entertainment experience. The W705 is the third phone to support Sony Ericsson’s Project Capuchin API and takes the number of phones supporting Sony Ericsson’s Java Platform 8 (JP-8) and the Mobile Services Architecture (MSA) umbrella standard (JSR 248) to 21.

Sony Ericsson is joining partner Adobe at the upcoming Adobe MAX 2008 events in San Francisco, USA (November 16-19, 2008) and Milan, Italy (December 1-4, 2008) to give Flash developers an opportunity to learn more about creating content for Sony Ericsson mobile phones, and in particular how to use Sony Ericsson’s Project Capuchin bridging technology.

The new version of the Sony Ericsson SDK for the Java ME platform supports four new features: MIDlet profiling, Project Capuchin, enhanced configuration of connected devices and Mobile Sensor API (JSR 256) emulation. Version 2.5.0.3 is available for download and here is an overview of the key enhancements.
