Low priced Android phones and tablets in the Philippines

I’ve just recently noticed the numerous releases of Android-enabled devices in the Philippine market. I’ve found at least 2 Android mobile phones and 2 Android tablets that have been released by local companies. The two Android mobile phones come from a company callled Torque while the two Android tablets come from KingCom. The devices are priced lower than the usual phones or tablets you’d find from HTC or Samsung. In fact, they are priced below the 10,000 peso point.

HTC Desire S android phone now in the Philippines

Looks like HTC has made available the Android powered HTC Desire S mobile phone in the Philippines. Found it in one of the local shops and it’s priced at 22,000 pesos. The HTC Desire is an upgrade path for those who have the HTC Desire. One thing different that I’ve noticed is the presence of a second front camera — something that isn’t present in the original HTC Desire.

Inspite of the barage of Android mobile phones that I have seen locally, there are still a lot of Nokia bearing mobile phone users in the  Philippines. Buy a Galaxy 551 Android phone in the Philippines

Yesterday, while at the mall, I accidentally found a new member of the Android mobile phones found in the Philippines — the Samsung Galaxy 551. This particular Android phone has a physical keyboard instead of just a touch screen keyboard which should potentially make it a popular choice since the people from the Philippines love to send text messages.

Unlimited Call/Text/Surf for 999 with Xperia Android phone

I was browsing the Sun Cellular web site a while ago to take a look at their Samsung Galaxy 5 free phone offer for unlimited call/text/surf plan for 999 pesos a month for my wife. I noticed something new. Apparently from the Sun Cellular web site, they are also offering the higher resolution and better looking Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 Android mobile phone for the same unlimited 999/month plan.

Android eBook reader for each student in the Philippines

More than 5 years ago, I had this crazyidea about how the future student would look like. Way back then, smartphones like Nokia are getting to be powerful enough to include an electronic book reader, wireless LAN access or wi-fi and high speed 3G internet acess. My vision was that students, instead of bringing around those big bags with wheels to carry their books, would just need to bring something like a pocketbook size touch screen computer. These pocketbook size touch screen computer will hold their books and notes and give them access to the “Internet library”.
