Twitter, the most popular microblogging site, has been infected by a worm that uses cross site scripting to make modifications to profiles of Twitter users. The Twitter team has quickly responded to the attack and has quickly moved to control the problem. NetNewsDaily got an opportunity to interview the creator of the StalkDaily worm, 17 year old Michael Mooney, who lives in Winnfield, Louisiana.

The worm quickly spread over the weekend but also thanks to the real time messages of the Twitter users, the Twitter team was notified of the problem which got addressed quickly. The worm did exposed some cross site scripting holes in the Twitter code. According to the worm author, he was bored and he did it to get Twitter’s attention to the problem. I finished updating my WordPress Kih is_mobile plugin over the weekend. No new features actually but just tested it for the newest version of WordPress. I’ve also started moving my coding projects page from TxTu to Code Stuff which is a more appropriate place for all my development project stuff.

The update is actually in preparation to adding more features to the is_mobile plugin. I was thinking of putting some automatic WordPress theme switching to the plugin to allow the average user to be able to use the plugin on their WordPress web sites. I’ve just finished converting my other web site, CodeStuff, to use the new WordPress theme I’ve created. I call the WordPress theme I’ve created as “Chameleon”. Now that codestuff.com has been converted, I’ll be posting more and more about my coding efforts on the codestuff.com website. If you’re interested in this little coding experiment / adventure I am doing, you can start subscribing to CodeStuff.

I’ve also placed links on CodeStuff to my other sites to make it easier for users to navigate around my sites as if it’s one cohesive site even though they are hosted on different domains. Once I’ve finished converting my other sites to the new Chameleon WordPress theme, I’ll then use it on other sites that I maintain. And hope make my life easier maintaining the sites using one code base.

Once I started to make a Wordpress theme that would satisfy my needs, one of the things I’ve come to discover and like is how Wordpress is so flexible. It’s not just a mere blogging tool and mind you it’s great as a personal publishing tool. But it’s also so flexible that I’d consider it to be more of a framework for doing lots of other things.

When I got started with my own blog, it didn’t take me long to realize that I need to have some other stuff on my blog. A couple of those things are a Web Directory and a Photo Gallery. Also depending on the topic of the blog, it would be nice to have a job board or classified ads with it.

The WordPress development team has released version 2.7.1 of the WordPress blogging software. This is mainly a maintenance release which fixes several issues since version 2.7. If you’re currently using WordPress 2.7, you can use the new “Upgrade WordPress” feature by accessing Tools | Upgrade from the menu. You can read the announcement at the WordPress.org site or take a look at what was fixed in WordPress 2.7.1.

I’ve been blogging for some time. When I got into blogging, I have found some very useful free plugins that have been created by very good PHP developers. I thought I’d share them by starting off a list here on my personal blog. I’ll start off with several and update the list regularly.

To start off the list, I’ve listed five plugins that I found very essential in a basic blog. If you are a new blogger and trying to find what plugins you need to start your own Wordpress site, read the list. I’ve found the plugins very useful and usually recommend them to those who wants to start their own blog.

The Internet is full of very creative people. I regularly surf around to check out some sites. I’ve decided to at least post a web site the I think are very cool and creative. This week I found this site actually from a link at Gizmodo — a very good that posts geeky gadgets and stuff.

Well, well, well. After several minutes of posting about Wordpress 2.7 release candidate 2, the Wordpress development team has just released the final 2.7 version of Wordpress. You can now download Wordpress 2.7. Wordpress version 2.7 has a new admin user interface that includes a lot of usability improvements compared to the current 2.6.x branch. It user interface has also been overhauled to make more efficient use of the display screen real estate. New features also make it easier to manage your posts / pages by providing quick edit functions for modifying meta data of your posts and pages.

Upgrading from the current Wordpress 2.6.5 version should be easy using its easy three step guide. If you’re new to blogging and would want to get your feet wet on using Wordpress, you can try it out for free by signing up for an account at wordpress.com. Wordpress 2.7 release candidate 2 just got released. At this point it’s pretty much how it would look like for the final release of Wordpress 2.7. The new interface design is much sleeker than the current design you are used to using in Wordpress.

The new icons and layout are now all in place. Although the new design have great improvements in terms of usability and functionality, I am more excited in the next version which will focus on the media library functions. I have some ideas and wishes that I would like to have in the media library like tagging and a whole new set of API’s that would enable developers to add functionality like cropping images before they get inserted in a post.

I’ve setup a “bleeding edge” copy of Wordpress on my notebook and I must say that the current release candidate 2 is looking good with a lot of the issues being fixed or worked around. If there will be no more major issues then expect Wordpress 2.7 final release in the coming days. Time for you to check it out and see if the plugins that you are currently using will work with the new version.
