More Android cell phones for the Philippines

It’s been quite a while since I last posted some of the Android mobile phones that are locally available in the Philippines. You can find my other lists of Android phones here on my site. Since then several other Android cell phones have been released in the local market. Here’s my latest list of additional Android mobile phones that are now available locally.

Android eBook reader for each student in the Philippines

More than 5 years ago, I had this crazyidea about how the future student would look like. Way back then, smartphones like Nokia are getting to be powerful enough to include an electronic book reader, wireless LAN access or wi-fi and high speed 3G internet acess. My vision was that students, instead of bringing around those big bags with wheels to carry their books, would just need to bring something like a pocketbook size touch screen computer. These pocketbook size touch screen computer will hold their books and notes and give them access to the “Internet library”.

My mobile app for Android, published

Several weeks back, I’ve finally decided to clean up an Android app that I have been using and published it in the Android Market. The mobile app is simple. What it does is automatically disable and enable my Internet connection via GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA based on the configured time schedule. You can also configure it such that it will enable/disable the Internet connection based on a repeating schedule.

Nokia’s next wave of Symbian phones in the Philippines

The annual Nokia World event which was just held last September 14-15 in London has got me pretty excited about the upcoming Symbian phones when they start arriving in the Philippines. I still look forward to one day being able to attend the Nokia World. I think I’m getting closer to the real thing because this year’s event WOMWorld/Nokia actually sent me a package of stuff to be a “virtual attendee” (Thanks WOMWorld/Nokia).

Just got Nokia 5800 firmware update version 50.0

Nokia’s Symbian OS v5 runs on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic mobile phone. It’s actually Nokia’s first mobile phone to support the Symbian’s first touch enabled operating system. If you got the Nokia 5800 connected phone early in the market, you’re probably running an old not so likable operating system (firmware) like me. I love Nokia mobile phones because it offers the latest in technology at affordable prices. Just to compare, the new Apple iPhone 4 would easily cost you more than 50,000 pesos locally just to get a dual camera high resolution screen. In comparison, the Nokia 5800 has a dual camera and decent high resolution screen at about 12,000 pesos. Even better, get the new Nokia C6 with a physical keyboard (great for text messaging) for only about 13,500 pesos.

Nokia C6 just made smartphones affordable

The Nokia C6 smartphone is now available in the Philippines. What’s so special about the Nokia C6? Well aside from having all the bells and whistles of a modern well connected phone, the Nokia C6 makes it well within the reach of more people. To give you an idea, the Nokia C6 has in all intensive purposes the same specifications of a Nokia 97 mini mobile phone. Just about the only difference is the 8GB internal storage of the N97 mini. But guess what, the Nokia C6 price is almost half of the launch price of the Nokia N97 mini. The Nokia C6 smartphone costs only about 13,500 pesos from local cellphone shops.

Samsung Galaxy 5 Android phone in the Philippines

Samsung has been nothing less than aggresive with churning out Android based mobile phones. When the Samsung Spica, one of it’s first Android mobile phones, became available in the Philippines I decided to buy one. Well it looks like Samsung is not stopping anytime soon. Adding to it’s list of Android phones that’s available on the Philippine shores is the Samsung Galaxy 5 cellphone. The Samsung Galaxy 5 is also know as the Samsung Corby i5500 and it looks like it’s the first Android phone under the Corby brand.

Samsung Galaxy S Android phone to get version 2.2

The Samsung Galaxy S which is currently available from Globe Telecoms might soon be getting a welcome update to Android version 2.2 also known as the Froyo version if the global update includes the Philippines. There are several enhancements to the Froyo version of Android but speed is probably the most welcome. Android Froyo offers 2-5 times improvement in the speed of mobile apps. Continue reading …

It’s been a while since I’ve made an updated list of the available Android mobile phones in the Philippines. I recently had a look at the mobile phone shops to find out what new Android mobile phones are now available locally. It looks like some more Android phones have already started to find its way in cell phone shops.
