Android developer challenge at Globe Labs

With the increasing number of Android handsets being available in the Philippines, Globe Labs of Globe Telecoms in the Philippines has started off it’s Android Developer Challenge. The event which is dubbed as the “Globe Challenge for Androidâ„¢” is being introduced to the mobile developers in the country.

The Android developer competition will start off with an event/workshop on April 19, 2010 (9am to 5pm) at the SMX Convention Center. During the event Android gurus will be providing basic Android mobile platform development training. Some mobile apps based on the Android mobile OS will also be showcased.

The competition will be launched on the event and will run through until July 2010 wherein the winners will be announced. The mobile apps that can be entered into the challenge must fall into one of five categories, namely Games, Messaging and Communications, Entertainment, Social Networking, and Productivity. The contest will undergo two basic phases. The first phase will be an elimination round and the final phase will be an online voting round that will pick the winner. Besides the prize money, the winner will have a chance to get funding for the mobile app development.

Globe is partnering with Samsung (maker of the locally available Spica Android phone), Plug and Play Tech Center. If you’re interested in signing up for the developer challenge, you can checkout the details of the Globe Android Developer Challenge at the Globe Labs page.
