Design your own Netbook, Notebook or Gamer PC

How does being able to create/design the specifications of your next notebook, netbook or gamer’s notebook PC sound to you? I’m sure every notebook or netbook owner would want to voice out their opinion on how the next netbook or notebook will come out of production.

Well, here’s an exciting idea introduced by Intel and ASUS.

… consumers can collaborate with each other and with Intel and ASUS to design innovative new products. The plan is for the two companies to deliver to market what could be the world’s first community-designed PCs.

logo-intel-and-asusIntel and ASUS has started a new web site, WePC.com, which will focus on coming up with first ever community-designed PC. The site will try to address three areas:

  • The next netbook — have a voice on how the next netbook will come out
  • The gamer’s dread of a perfect gaming notebook
  • What should be included in the ideal notebook

My ideas of the coolest and perfect specs

Netbook — 10-inch touch screen display, 3D graphics, 1280 x 800 resolution, single charge 8 hours of battery life, SSD storage, 2GB memory, dual core would be nice for games but battery juice is more important. User upgradeable memory and SSD storage.

Notebook — minimum resolution of 1680 x 1050 (get rid of those 1280 x 800 resolutions). User upgradeable memory and storage.

Gamer’s notebook — how about PS3 GPU performance. User upgradeable memory and storage.

Three most important things that should be available in all three categories

  • User upgradeable storage. Whether it’s a hard disc or a solid state disc, it should be user upgradeable. With the current devices, you need to go to a shop to upgrade them if you don’t want to void your warranty.
  • User upgradeable memory. Same reason as above.
  • Probably the most important. Standard user replaceable batteries. This issue has been plaguing the current devices. The batteries for such devices should be commoditized. Did you know that most of the current devices use standard Lithium battery sizes that are just placed in the “manufacturer specific battery packs”? This just makes it harder for users to change the batteries when they get depleted. The manufacturer’s should start using designs that allow for usage of the standard size rechargeable batteries.

I hope at least the three ideas above would be included. How about you?
