Just days away to the first Android phone

I’m a bit eager in waiting for the first Android mobile phone to come out. I’ve been reading that it’s coming out on the last week of September or early October.

I’ve seen some of the photos of the HTC Dream running Google’s Android and hope we could see the final product. I just hope that it will be available on the open market and not just with a T-Mobile subscription.

I’d also want to see how the other mobile phone manufacturers especially the ones from China (big market) would act with the release of version 1.0 of the Android open mobile platform. It should really be a great opportunity to be able to have access to an open mobile platform that is being support by Google and HTC among other organizations.

China is such a big market which has sold a lot of Apple iPhones. It’s a growing market. Other mobile phone manufacturers in India for instance may be interested in an accessible open mobile platform which will save them a sizeable amount of money in R&D.

If the Android platform becomes popular, wonder if Sun will port J2ME in Android (should be pretty easy) lots of mobile game developers like Gameloft and Activision will have an accessible market without re-investing in addtional man hours in game development.

I guess we’ll all see in the coming months. For now I’m just waiting for the first Android mobile phone and hoping it will be available not just from T-Mobile.
