This post should have been “A look into the Smart’s Uzzap and Globe’s Unlichat” but after several attempts at getting Smart’s Uzzap application installed on my mobile phone I’ve just given up on using it. I’ve gotten to the point that after several attempts I was able to install the software but I just couldn’t login in. I hope you had better luck than I did. It would have been nice to see how they paired up on their Instant Messaging services.
Downloading of the Globe Unlichat application happened with actually no frills. I went to the unlichat web page, typed my mobile phone number. Globe sent me a link for the application download and I got the application installed on my mobile phone in no time. The application doesn’t seem to work over wifi if you have a wifi-equipped mobile phone. You’ll have to use the Globe network to use it.
After installing the Globe Unlichat application on my mobile phone, I was able to start using it by logging in straight away into my Yahoo Messenger account. In contrast, with the Smart Uzzap application you’ll have to register first before starting to use the service. Too bad I wasn’t able to login to check out the Uzzap application.
Both of them are still in the beta stage so I’m hoping that things will be better once they go into production. After logging into your Yahoo IM account, you’ll see a screen with your userid and a list of your online buddies and an indication of their current online status. One thing I quickly noticed is the lag in the application plus when your buddy is offline and suddenly goes online, it doesn’t seem to reflect on the status.
Upon clicking on the menu, you’ll see some familiar functions like Add Contact, Contact Options and Settings. Under Contact Options you’ll be able to display information about an online buddy or start a conversation. Under User Options, you can change your online status.
I quickly tried out chatting with an online buddy. Starting a conversation will bring up a chat screen where you can type in your messages. You can start a conversation with another buddy simultaneously. Unless you have one of those mobile phones with a keyboard, you’ll have to do with your numeric keypad.
One nice feature of the Unlichat application is creating shortcuts. You can create shortcuts to standard messages that you typed in regularly and save them. Later, instead of re-keying the message, you can just select and insert them while chatting.
You can also send some of those familiar smileys that we all use when we chat online. Even at beta, the Unlichat service was already quite usable with one glitch that I noticed — network lag. It takes several seconds before the message can be received on the other end. This is something that I hope Globe would fix before it goes into production.

The service is free until October 4, 2008. You’d also need one of the mobile phones below because they’re the ones the are currently supported.

The Unlichat service, once it’s launched, is 25 pesos for unlimited use for one whole day, P100 for 5 days unlimited access and P200 for 15 days unlimited access. It’s a good alternative to SMS if you’re a heavy SMS user since it allows you to chat with several buddies in one session.

hey its france here loyal smart user i tried using uzzap as well and i didnt enjoy it for theres alot of hasle before you can access messenger.ive heared about unlichat so i bought globe sim just to try out there service,i find it very impressive the moment i pump in my sim on my mobile it gives me the settings for my 3g,gprs and mms unlike other provider where you still need to request for such.i was able to download unlichat very easy and fast and use the service but i just have one problem….i wonder if you can help me out.my phone keeps giving me message telling me that my memory is full and i need to delete some data.i treid to check my mobile and i already erased all the message i dont even have pictures or videos even music on it when i check my phone memory what was left is zero kb???? i wonder where does me phone memory goes? i wonder if all the message i sent and received through mobile messenger has been saved somewhere in my phone.. but i dont have any clue where and how to erase it.im hoping for a reply on this concern thanks alot and more power!!!

Hi france, the N70 has a small memory. It’s possible that after installing the program, it occupied what was left of your memory. To check, try removing the Unlichat program. Then check how much memory you have before Unlichat was loaded.
If you’ve also loaded a lot of mobile games on your phone, it will eat up memory.
hey thanks for the reply yet ive tried that already i removed the uzzap and the yahoo go i installed and i checked my n70 mobile had enough memory already but when i start using unli chat again.. i just realized i got 0kb
how did it happen? it always says delete some data ive erased everything already nothing has left in my inbox outbox games and musics as in totaly zero.. then i chat using unli chat again i lost the free memory now 0 kb agian so i just dont know what to do now im afraid my mobile might crash.. for now i stoped using unlichat… pls reply thanks
hi france, programs would usually open files on your mobile phone for reading/writing and this would eat up space. so if you have space before running unlichat, it’s very possible that it will use that space. Do you have other mobile phones you can try it?
When I tried it out, I was using a Nokia N80 and didn’t have memory problems. If you want to check your phone, you can try using other IM programs for mobile phones from my compiled list of instant messaging software for mobile phones. They perform better but you would have to pay for data costs on your mobile.

I love using my uzzap appli…it is n0t w0rkng on my ph0ne as well as i th0ught…but it is 100% fun using it…maybe l0t of hussle might enc0unter cause not all kind of phone are sopported but it can asure u the enj0yment that you want…and there is a l0t of chatroom to choose for…,just be aware of the flooders…or if your one of the flooderz…just be aware of sentinel..he can kick you out from the room your chating with..en ban you for several days..or maybe a week..

Hey yah there.. Ive been using uzzap 4 a year n0w, and its been quite a rollercoaster. Its fun and super enjoyable. You get to meet a lot of friends and get to build an instant family there.. Yeah, the problem is when the system becomes overloaded and your screen freezes, i would always refer it as “comatose” or “stroke”, hehe.. And yes, with regard with the ym connection, how bad could it get! When you need to connect, gosh you just couldnt connect!! I hope they get to arrange that, so that we wouldnt also miss important ym’s.. Im an UZZAP ADIK.. \../:DD\../ WHO IS SENTINEL? I know who’s sentinel is.. Hakhak
