Command and Conquer on your mobile phone

Over the week end I got a copy of the mobile Java game from EA mobile called Command and Conquer 3 – Tiberium Wars. I love playing strategy games on the PC and Command and Conquer is one of them so I was very curious how it was on the mobile phone.

After installing the mobile game on the Nokia N80, I was a bit disappointed because the splash graphics didn’t look good. I continued to try out the mobile game.

When I started to play the Command and Conquer 3 mobile Java game, I was faced with another unexpected situation. The mobile game was actually turn based instead of the real time strategy that I was hoping it to be similar to it’s PC big brother.

I suddenly realize that it would be hard to play a real-time based strategy game on the mobile phone. Or is it? Maybe if the mobile phone has a touch screen or stylus interface it would have been different. I know how cool it would be to be able to play real time strategy on a touch screen or stylus based device ‘coz I’ve played a similar game from Warfare Inc. on the Palm and on the Pocket PC.

Anyway, I continued playing the mobile game feeling a bit awkward ‘coz in the mobile game version, I would have to first build-up my base before having to deal with the enemies in battle instead of the usual real time battle and adjusting your strategy based on what’s happening on the war campaign.

The Command and Conquer 3 – Tiberium Wars mobile Java game also has a skirmish mode but it’s still the same turn-based game instead of real time.
