LWUIT: A compelling UI library for J2ME

In a bid to make it more easier for J2ME developers to create more consistent mobile Java applications, a group of developers at java.net have created the LWUIT project.

LWUIT is a user interface (UI) library that helps J2ME developers in creating mobile Java application software that have consistency. LWUIT does a lot more that just providing you with title bars, forms and status bars. It also has support for other visual components and other UI goodies such as theming, transitions, animation.

Some of its key features include:

  • Swing Like MVC
  • Layouts
  • PLAF & Themes
  • Fonts
  • Touch Screen
  • Animations & Transitions
  • Rich widgets
  • 3D Integration
  • Painters
  • Modal Dialogs
  • External Tools
  • I18N/L10N

Still in the development phase, the LWUIT developers have provided an early access binary of the library for J2ME developers.
